We will begin with a most breathtaking route, from Bucharest through Sinaia, and on to the beautiful and world renowned Bran Castle, dubbed Dracula’s Castle. This dramatic 14’th century citadel is a national monument, as well as an outstanding landmark in Romania. After visiting this touristic attraction, the ride will follow through Brasov, all the way to 1585m altitude in the Fagaras Mountains, using the Transfagarasan Pass, combining the wild and picturesque landscapes with an impressive display of architectural splendors found in these magical parts of the country. Another attraction on your route is the Vidraru Lake situated along the Transfagarasan, where the Arges River enters the gorges. Surrounded by thick forests and y the majestic crests of the Fagaras Mountains, this calm mirror invites you to relax in this fascinating place, highly appreciated by those who love natural scenery. Our journey will break for the night at the Capra resort, situated only 9 km distance from the glacial Balea Lake.
Your journey will take you through the Translapina Pass, at 2100 meters altitude, the highest hanging road in Romania, nothing but serpentines, heart stopping scenery and riding right above the clouds. We will also merge riding and art for you. Sounds like a paradox? Hardly...We will take you all the way to Tirgu-Jiu, a city that lies at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, on the banks of the river Jiu, where the sculptures of one of the most famous and worldwide known artist are on permanent exhibit. If you never heard of Constantin Brancusi, today is the day to meet face to face with a few pieces of his art work, as the city of Tirgu-Jiu hosts and preserves some of his legacy.
Through a most scenic and dramatic region of this part of the world called the Danube Cazane. This is where the Danube contracts between the tall stone walls and the strong currents. Everything gives you the impression that the water is boiling. The 9 km defile is a true spectacle of nature and from one end to the other you can see nothing but heavenly scenery. The city of Nis is next on our itinerary, one of the oldest cities in the Balkans and Europe on the itinerary. It has been considered from ancient times a gateway between the East and the West, and it is also the birthplace of Constantine the Great, the first Christian emperor and founder of Constantinople. Another interesting touristic attraction in this city is the Skull Tower, built by the Turks from the skulls of the Serbs killed in the battle of Cegar, near Nis, in May 1809. The Nis Fortress located on the banks of the Nisava river, was built over the remains of a roman military camp, between the years 1719-1723.
Located in the central part of Serbia, is one of the larger mountain ranges in the country. Approximately 12 000 hectares of the range has been proclaimed a national park, due to its location, climate, rich forests, variety of herbs, as well as area for holiday and recreation. The national park is situated relatively flat region, at an altitude of about 1700m. Kopaonik also has a rich historical heritage. The area was an important mining center, with a notable saxon community operating in the area. Besides old churches and monasteries, there are also several medieval fortresses, built by Serbian dynasties.
Durmitor National Park is a breathtaking area that was formed by glaciers and it is traversed by rivers and underground streams, where the dense pine forests are interspersed with clear lakes and harbor a wide range of endemic flora. The stunning limestone massif of Durmitor belongs to the Dinaric Alps or Dinarides. Besides the extraordinary beauty of the landscapes and the fascinating geological heritage, this national park is also home to an impressive biological diversity. We guarantee that your trip in this region will create unforgettable memories, as Durmitor stuns with dizzying canyons, glittering lakes and nearly 50 limestone peaks soaring to over 2000m. To wrap up this extraordinary day, we will ride to Dubrovnic where we will break our journey for the day.
Dubrovnik is first and here you can make certain you will fall in love with the beauty of this old town. Regardless of whether you are visiting it for the first time or the hundredth, the sense of awe never fails to descend when you lay eyes on it. The city’s marble streets, baroque buildings and the endless shimmer of the Adriatic will leave an imprint on your memory that is hard to equal. While we are at making memories, the next gem on the itinerary is Lake Skadar, the largest lake in Southern Europe, which lies on the border of Albania and Montenegro. The dolphin shaped lake, has its tail and two thirds of its body in Montenegro, and its nose in Albania. Skadar is renowned as one of Europe’s top bird habitats. It is a blissfully pretty area, encompassing steep mountains, island monasteries, clear waters, and floating meadows of water lilies. One of the main towns here, albeit very small is Virpazar, a little fishermen village, on the road from Podgorica towards the coast. First mentioned in 1242, its strategic location was capitalized in the 15’th century by the Turks, who built the Besac castle which still stands above the village. To wrap up this extraordinary day, we will ride to Prizren, Kosovo, where we will spend the night.
First on our schedule today we have the renowned Prizren Fortress. Located above the old town, it has a superb view over the city and on into the distance. The first fortress here was built by the Byzantines and was expanded by successive Serbian kings in the 12’th to 14’th centuries, before becoming a seat of power for the Ottoman rullers of Kosovo until their expulsion in 1912. Our next attraction of this day’s tour will be represented by the Mavrovo Canyon, this time in beautiful Macedonia. Considered by some one of the most beautiful canyons in the world, it is home to the highest waterfall in the Balkans. Of course it is very hard to top such views, but we will try still, by taking you further, to Lake Ohrid. Sublime Ohrid is Macedonia’s most seductive destination, with a lovely old quarter cascading down a graceful hill, crammed full of beautiful churches and topped by the bones of a medieval castle. Its cobbled streets are flanked by traditional restaurants and lakeside cafes, but it’s not a complete tourist circus just yet and still has a lived-in feel, particularly in the upper reaches of the Old Town. Our journey will end here for the day, only to start again the next day with renewed forces.
Today’s ride will lead you through Mavrovo National Park where the gorges, pine forests, karst fields and waterfalls, offer a breath of fresh, rarefied air for visitors. Riding through the park is extremely scenic and you will be able to take away with you memories for years come. Our ride will follow the road through Tetovo, a town tucked into the northwestern corner of Macedonia, and finalize for the day in the capital of the country, Skopje.
You can peel back the veneer and discover a genuine historic core to the city that warrants just as much attention as its new wonders. Ottoman and Byzantine-era sights are focused around the city’s delightful old Turkish bazaar, bordered by the 15’th century stone bridge and Tvrdina Kale Fortress, Skopje’s guardian since the 5’th century. The ride continuous, crossing yet another border, right in to Bulgaria, and via its beautiful capital city of Sofia, right to another fortress, this time the Kaleto fortress in Belogradchik. Almost blending in with the surrounding rocks, it was built by the Romans and later expanded by the Byzantines, Bulgarians and Turks. We will break our journey here for the day.
The Bulgarian city that rests on a bend in the Danube, in the far northwest of country. After crossing into Romania, the next point of interest is leading us to Dragasani, to be more precise to the Avincis Winery of Dragasani. While lodging here, you will not only enjoy the beautiful accomodations, but also savor the wines, discover the winery’s history, and last but not least, enjoy an amazing meal which will leave your palate fully satisfied and thirsty for the beautiful wines here.
Will be a smooth and relaxing one, through the southern part of the country, crossing villages, hills full of serpentines, forests and lakes. Allow your memory to photograph these images so that it will provide you with excitement and thrill, many times over after your departure, and perhaps bring you back for more.
This day is concluding your trip. Hoping that you enjoyed your stay with us, we will bid you good-bye, but perhaps only for a short period of time until you will return again or perhaps tell a friend about us.
